Giving Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6's Guns Some New Fun Sounds
Yuri Ha put her heart and soul into every detail.
You may not think about sound design as much as visuals, but it plays a huge role in shaping how we perceive what's happening on screen. Sound Designer Yuri Ha reimagined the gun foley for Black Ops 6, one of her favorite titles in the Call of Duty series, but instead of sticking to a typical military sound, she experimented with different concepts, creating unique sounds for weapons from the Nihilist, Seaborne, and Ferrofluid bundles.
- Octopus. I added cute, anime-style sounds to the octopus character, centering on water effects! I worked to ensure the octopus's viscosity and Gun Foley sounds could be clearly felt separately.
- Alien. I expressed the alien's texture with viscous and heavy sounds, and depicted the movement of the object by mixing whip sounds with high-frequency creature sounds and using panning!
- Magic. I composed this sound centered on metal and magic, adding anime elements to the character. I worked to ensure the impact and texture of actions like combining, separating, and knives could be heard clearly! (machine-translated)
Well, it may not be everyone's cup of tea as a player, but artistically, it's both creative and pretty immersive. Here are a few more sound redesigns by Yuri Ha, one for the Bunny trailer from The First Descendant and another for Project Spectrum:

Sound designers can find inspiration in the most unexpected places: for example, kitchen tools in Love, Death & Robots, or plungers, pasta, melons, and even a baby's heartbeat in the womb for God of War Ragnarök.
