Goat Simulator Developer Is Looking for Mobile Programmer & Art Director

Coffee Stain North has opened two positions in Stockholm.

Coffee Stain North is hiring for two job positions: Mobile Programmer and Art Director and Art Lead, both in Stockholm. The studio is known for the Goat Simulator series, a third-person sandbox adventure where players can live out their wildest dreams as a goat.

The positions are permanent, full-time, 40 hours per week. The studio offers a hybrid setup, with the option to work from home two days per week.

Intermediate Mobile Programmer at Coffee Stain North in Stockholm

The position involves working in game development in Unreal Engine 4 and Unreal Engine 5, supporting both released and upcoming titles on iOS and Android, and collaborating closely with the wider Goat Simulator team. The work will have a particular focus on the mobile-specific parts of development.

Background requirements are:

  • 2+ years of professional experience in game development

  • Experience working with C++ in game development

  • Relevant experience in Unreal Engine

Experience in the following areas is considered a plus:

  • Mobile game development

  • CI/CD tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions

  • Multiplayer games

  • Game optimization, both in terms of graphical fidelity and frame time

Art Director and Art Lead at Coffee Stain North in Stockholm

The responsibilities include defining and maintaining the artistic vision for the studio's projects, from early exploration to release. In this position, you will lead and guide the art team to deliver on the vision and work closely with other disciplines to ensure that the visual direction supports both the player experience and the overall goals of the project.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Communicate the artistic vision through documentation, visual references, presentations, sketches, paint-overs, and ongoing feedback, ensuring the team is aligned on both creative goals and practical constraints

  • Continuously assess the project's visual experience and drive improvements to quality, consistency, and player impact

  • Guide artistic decisions by balancing gameplay needs, project goals, production realities, and technical constraints across target platforms

  • Partner with the leadership team on planning, prioritization, scope discussions, and long-term project direction

  • Regular one-on-ones and development conversations

  • Performance reviews, goal setting, and career development

  • Coaching and supporting team members in their growth

  • Recruitment and onboarding

  • Supporting the team through interpersonal and organizational challenges

  • Helping maintain a healthy, inclusive, and collaborative team culture

The studio expects over 5 years of professional experience in game art and at least one shipped game title in a leadership role.

Background:

  • Worked as an Art Director, Lead Artist, or in a similar leadership role within game development

  • Experience managing and developing people within a creative team

  • Strong understanding of art fundamentals (such as color theory, composition, anatomy, shape language, visual storytelling, and design principles)

  • Ability to communicate ideas and feedback visually through sketches and paint-overs

  • Experience working with and adapting to different art styles and visual tones

  • Knowledge of technical constraints across multiple gaming platforms

  • Strong understanding of game art production pipelines across multiple disciplines and ability to artistically guide each of them, including environment art, character art, animation, VFX, lighting, UI, and promotional art
