New default editor theme, SSR implementation overhaul, and more, with 239 fixes in total.
The development of Godot Engine 4.6 is moving at full speed, and the third development snapshot has just landed, bringing contributions from 101 developers and delivering a total of 239 fixes. The improvements are large, and several changes completely overhaul the editor's look.
Longtime Godot users are likely familiar with one of its most popular custom themes: the Godot Minimal Theme by passivestar. A frequent community request has been to see this theme officially integrated, and it is now the editor's default theme.
Dubbed the Modern Theme, it brings some visual changes from passivestar's design. This implementation is not final, the team strongly encourages community feedback to help identify and resolve any remaining issues, particularly regarding accessibility and readability.
Continuing the visual overhaul, a similar minimal-style update has been applied to the array inspector. Since this change is built into the inspector itself, the improvements are visible regardless of which editor theme is selected.
Also, rendering updates seem to be a major focus of the upcoming release. The screen space reflection system has been overhauled to deliver better performance and higher quality. You can learn more and see the results by clicking this link.
