Godot Developer Designs Game UI With Shader
"I don't know how to use Photoshop or draw."
Perhaps this is what they mean by "playing to your strengths." Game Developer known on Reddit as _4rch1t3ct shared that they can't draw, so they created art using math and code instead. The developer built a game UI using only ColorRects and noise textures, and this shader can dynamically adjust to any size.
Looks simple, but the result is pretty nice, and sadly, the cat featured in the UI is just a placeholder, not an artistic choice. The developer also mentioned they might create a tutorial on this approach and share more details about the game with major PS2-era horror vibes in the future.
If you're in a similar situation, you might find Material Maker useful. It's free and lets you create materials using node-based graphs, with easy export for game engines. Mingwei Lim, also known as CMZW, has created numerous projects with it, including an illuminated fish pond and a surreal material featuring warped clocks, with files available for download:
