Mayak is a hard sci-fi, side-scrolling visual novel about first contact, love, and a mysterious prime-number countdown, said to be inspired by the works of Lem, Heinlein, Egan, the Strugatsky brothers, and other classics. It puts you in the role of a young astronomer who has to investigate a strange signal from a distant star, unravel an alien mystery, and fight to save the one he loves.
Created by one person, the game features a linear narrative accompanied by operatic vocals, strings, saxophone, and warm analog synths. Also, there's real science with animated explanations of concepts like interstellar travel, star life cycles, signal transmission and decoding, and more:
