GTA VI Developer Rockstar Games Confirms Data Breach
"This incident has no impact on our organization or our players."

On April 11th, the hacker group ShinyHunters claimed that it had gained access to Rockstar Games' Snowflake servers, a cloud hosting provider used by many large companies. The hackers demanded a ransom and threatened to release the stolen data by April 14th if Rockstar did not comply.
ShinyHunters reportedly didn't break Snowflake's encryption directly, but instead accessed AI analytics platform Anodot's system to steal authentication tokens, which were then used as digital passkeys to enter Rockstar's Snowflake environment. As The CyberSec Guru explained, "If you give a tool like Anodot broad read permissions on your Snowflake warehouse and that tool gets compromised, the data is gone. Snowflake isn't the weak link here; the integration policy is."
Rockstar Games later confirmed that the data breach occurred, stating in a message shared with several media outlets:
"We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach. This incident has no impact on our organization or our players."
ShinyHunters hasn't revealed what data or files it stole. The hacker group, which has been active since 2020, is known for targeting large organizations, including Google, as well as other major companies like Ticketmaster, Cisco, AT&T, and Wattpad.
This also isn't the first time Rockstar Games has faced a data breach: in 2022, a teenager leaked early Grand Theft Auto VI footage after compromising a Slack account.
Back in November, Rockstar Games fired close to 40 employees for "distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum." However, the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) accused the company of targeting union activity.
Grand Theft Auto is expected to launch on November 19, 2026.
