GTA VI Will Feature a Playable Female Protagonist

The character will be one of the game's two protagonists, inspired by the infamous Bonnie and Clyde.

Grand Theft Auto VI, the next installment in the renowned GTA franchise, will reportedly feature a female protagonist, the first female main character since the first game in the series. The news comes from Bloomberg's new report on Rockstar and is based on sources close to the studio.

According to the report, the upcoming game will feature two protagonists, one of whom will be a Latina woman. The pair of main characters will be inspired by the infamous real-life duo of bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde. If true, Grand Theft Auto VI will mark the first time in the 3D GTA series a female is featured as a playable character.

The report also states that the launch version of GTA VI will feature Vice City and its surrounding areas and will be updated with "new missions and cities on a regular basis". What's more, the launch version promises to include more interior locations than any GTA game before it.

Recently, it's been reported that the developer is now focusing on the production of Grand Theft Auto VI. The studio reportedly shelved the development of GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption remasters in favor of GTA VI. Besides, Rockstar recently revealed that Red Dead Online fans shouldn't expect major updates any time soon, which is also connected to the company's focus on the next GTA game.

On top of that, Rockstar Games has also recently opened over 300 positions across its global studios, covering a number of development disciplines – from 3D Character and Environment Artists to Data Engineers and Physics Programmers.
