Hajime no Ippo Protagonist Recreated in 3D Manga-Style

Ippo Makunouchi looks dynamic in Angel Corona's render.

Artist Angel Corona shared his unusual take on Ippo Makunouchi, the main character of the Hajime no Ippo manga and anime. In his manga-style render, Ippo looks as if he's moving, evading attacks, like the original creator George Morikawa might depict him on paper.

Inspired by the series, Corona wanted to capture Ippo's Dempsey Roll using ZBrush and Blender.

"I wanted to experiment more with manga-style rendering since I had never done a monochrome piece before, and it felt like an exciting challenge. I combined different NPR and hand-painted techniques to achieve that special look and honestly, I’m really happy with how it turned out."

This is a slight step out of Corona's usual field: colorful 2D-like renders, like the Wolf from Puss in Boots and Kung Fu Panda's Tai Lung, which you can find on his website and Instagram.
