Haven Studios' Fairgames Reportedly Fails to Interest Players in Playtest
Is there no hope for the extraction shooter?

Last year, Sony delayed Haven Studios' heist extraction shooter Fairgames until 2026, but it looks like it didn't help: sources familiar with the latest playtest of its pre-alpha version say that it still can't "find the fun," according to Insider Gaming.
The outlet had a look at the footage of four three-player teams looting a mansion using a class-based system (reminds you of something?) and saw screenshots of the game’s playtest Discord, with "a massive amount of negative player feedback" criticizing the game's movement, NPCs, class system, and more.
Those who had an opportunity to play told Insider Gaming that they "either played a few games and stopped, or teammates would leave mid-match and not play again because the game felt incomplete or boring."
I doubt this situation surprises anyone (other than Sony, perhaps): I guess the success of live-service games like Call of Duty and Battlefield makes leaders of big companies think it's a popular genre that needs more titles, but we know from Concord that it's not the case if the game doesn't offer anything unique. But to be fair, Sony's Marathon is doing pretty well, with an 18,402 concurrent player peak in the past 24 hours, so maybe Haven Studios will figure something out in the end, but it looks like a long journey to its release.
