Helldivers 2's Dev Increased the Player Capacity of Their Servers to 800,000

The servers handled the players this weekend, that's good news.

As Helldivers 2, a third-person squad-based shooter developed by Arrowhead, is getting more attention and recognition from players with each passing day, the studio doesn't stand still.

We previously reported that since the game's launch, it has faced many challenges, mostly connected to server overload, because there were way too many people who wanted to join "an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats."

Knowing their weak spots, the development team has been fixing issues to ensure that players will enjoy the game, rather than quit it in disappointment. On January 23, Arrowhead's CEO Johan Pilestedt took to Twitter and shared that the team has increased its capacity from 450,000 to 700,000 concurrent players.

"I have one final update for tonight. We have updated the max CCU cap to 700,000. Unfortunately, we expect the CCU to reach that level. We believe that the wait times will be much more bearable," he said.

A couple of days later, Pilestedt wrote that the team had managed to broaden the capacity once again to 800,000 concurrent users, noticing that these changes had been implemented by the studio, which has around 100 developers.

"We expect the Helldivers 2 servers to hit the 800,000 CCU max capacity in 3-4 hours. There might be light queues to get in at peak," Pilestedt shared. "Also, how crazy is this message from a studio of ~100 devs?"

As a result, the servers handled all the players without having any problems. That's a good achievement for the team.

Speaking of the studio's CEO, he recently shared on Twitter why they can't simply hire more developers from Sony to solve all the issues the game has.
