Helldivers 2's Largest Ever Update is Coming in August

"Helldivers, this is escalating quickly."

Arrowhead Game Studios has announced that Helldivers 2 is getting its most substantial update yet. The update is titled "Escalation of Freedom" and is scheduled for August 6th, bringing more challenges, new game modes, and even a nostalgic return of a favorite enemy from the original Helldivers.

Combat Rating 10 is introduced to add a new level of difficulty to the game, designed to offer players a more intense battle experience:

“We thought nine levels of Helldiving difficulties would be enough, but in the Escalation of Freedom we’re turning it up to 10… Combat Rating 10 that is.

CR 10: Super Helldive is our most challenging, most relentless dive difficulty level yet, and we hope that this is going to give players the intensity they’re looking for on the battlefield. And with a great challenge comes greater rewards.”

The introduction of new enemies to the game as well as the return of the Impaler from the original Helldivers, a formidable enemy from the Bug faction that uses its massive tentacles to attack from a distance, has excited many. Alongside this, players will face enhanced Automatons like the Rocket Tank, "as well as some other bot surprises we’ll be throwing your way."

The update also brings visual changes to the swamp biome, introduces acid storms that can lower armor for players and enemies, and addresses grief kicking by allowing kicked players to retain their loot in a new session as the host, which is one of the strategies they use to "improve the player experience and encourage healthy, cooperative gameplay."
