Here's How You Can Set Up an Anatomically Correct Human Body Rig

sakuramochiJP continues to share insights on 3D rigging in Maya.

In case you missed the news, last week, we highlighted the amazing human body animation references shared by sakuramochiJP, a talented 3D Rigging Artist and Animator, over on Twitter. Following the initial feature, the creator continued the series, delighting us with a couple of cool new rigs that can be utilized as a perfect reference for creating anatomically correct animations.

Having covered arms and hands motions, sakuramochiJP turned their attention to human legs and upper torso, demonstrating how to animate them in a lifelike manner. As before, the artist utilized the basic skinning tools and Set Driven Keys in Maya to achieve the final results.

And here are the artist's previous rigs, you can check out more of sakuramochiJP's amazing projects by visiting the author's Twitter page:

Previously, 3D Artist Sherif A. Dawoud also shared some insights on animating human torso in an exclusive 80 Level interview, which you can read here.

Last year, we also highlighted SciePro's comprehensive and sizeable collection of physically-accurate 3D medical models created using such programs as ZBrush, 3ds Max, Blender, and V-Ray. Based on real-life 3D scans, MRIs, and photo libraries, the models are 100% anatomically correct, serving as the perfect reference you could use for your projects.

And if you'd like to learn more about human anatomy in general, we highly recommend checking out our 2022 80 Level Digest on the topic, which lists some valuable resources, including websites, videos, and books, that will help you get a better grasp of human anatomy.
