Here's What 90 Hand-Drawn Frames Look Like In This Bizarre Indie Adventure Game

Akunaee shared their progress on FleshFest.

In FleshFest, you play as Ruby, a kid trapped inside a vast, ancient, and surreal castle. To escape, you'll have to navigate a maze of interconnected rooms filled with puzzles, platforming challenges, and bizarre threats. The world is structured in a metroidvania style, featuring large, diverse areas that gradually open up as you progress, and core gameplay focuses on puzzle-solving, precise movement, and stealth.

This project was started last year by Indie Game Developer Akunaee, who drew inspiration from titles like Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus, Resident Evil, and Hollow Knight. The smooth and stylish animation, primarily done on twos, you see here, is just the first glimpse of their progress, created using Clip Studio Paint. The backgrounds are currently placeholders, just basic shapes set up before the actual environment painting begins.
