Hilarious Pixelated Censorship Effect in Unreal Engine 5

Applying the material to a sphere allows you to censor parts of your UE5 mannequins.

Technical Artist and Game Developer Christian Sparks, also known as hippowombat, has recently decided to take a break from his more serious projects and conduct a "goofy material experiment" in Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5.

Leveraging the engine's Material Graph, the artist has managed to set up an impressive pixelated/mosaic censorship effect that looks extremely similar to the one you've probably seen on TV hundreds of times. Applying the material to a sphere and attaching it to a UE5 mannequin leads to some hilarious results, as shown in the GIF above. What's more, the author has generously shared the setup behind this material, allowing others to easily recreate the effect themselves.

Previously, Christian impressed us with a collection of demos showcasing a neat recreation of Counter-Strike 2's smoke grenade effect set up in Unreal Engine 5:

And prior to that, the artist announced Snaccoon, an upcoming stealth and exploration game where you play as a raccoon, running around and exploring a beautiful stylized city to pilfer treats and snacks.
