"I Really Hope GTA VI Costs $100," Saints Row Creator Says

The will-they-won't-they speculation over Rockstar and Take-Two potentially raising Grand Theft Auto 6's price to $100 stubbornly refuses to go away and will likely only end when the developers officially reveal the price tag. Pouring more gasoline on the flames of the debate is Chris Stockman, Design Director of the original Saints Row, who openly stated that he actually hopes GTA 6 will cost $100.

Speaking to Esports Insider, Stockman said he "really hopes" the upcoming title costs $100, noting that "it deserves it" and that it's the only game so far that could theoretically get away with it without any reputational damage, given GTA 6's gargantuan scope and Rockstar's enormous spending on the game's production.

Addressing the gaming community's biggest concern about the potential price hike – namely that other developers might use it as a precedent and follow suit – Stockman said he doesn't believe that would happen."I don't think it's a rising tide that floats all boats," he commented. "I think that there'll be a tremendous amount of backlash if everyone switched to $100. Not all games are created equal. It would be a disaster if everyone tried to match [Rockstar]."

Whether you agree with Stockman or not is up to you, however, it's interesting to point out that his comment aligns closely with Matthew Ball's The State of Video Gaming in 2025 presentation, where Ball mentioned that some developers "hope" the next GTA installment will be priced between $80 and $100 – an increase that could let studios raise the price of their own new releases by at least $10.
