Implementing Morten Mikkelsen's Method of Working with Hex Tiles

Eric Anderson shared the results of a recent experiment with hex tiles.

Tech Artist and Art Director Eric Anderson shared the results of a recent experiment with hex tiles using a new method proposed by Developer Morten S. Mikkelsen back in July. In case you missed it, Morten's way of working with tiling textures without histogram-preservation allows you to sample the original source textures and hide seams between hex tiles in a more practical way.

Utilizing the method, Eric has managed to set up a realistic-looking floor surface in Unreal Engine that looks anything but tiled. The results left the artist satisfied, however, Eric commented that they would still need some refinement before being game ready.
