In This Horror Game Mannequins Actually Move To Kill You When You Look Away
Don't blink.
Steelkrill Studio, a solo indie developer best known for horror titles like Trenches and The Backrooms 1998, is currently working on a new project called The 18th Attic. In this game, you play as a man trapped in a mysterious time loop, armed only with an instant camera.
While the game draws heavy inspiration from Fatal Frame, this particular segment, shown in the demo above, pays homage to Resident Evil 8's mannequins and the eerie Weeping Angels from the Doctor Who TV series.
Many games that feature mannequins typically make them teleport in and out of view. Steelkrill wanted to take it a step further by having them actually move, attempt to approach the player, and get slightly caught, instead of simply appearing and disappearing off-screen. Here's the perspective from the main character:
In The 18th Attic, your mission is to track down paranormal anomalies by capturing their images and detecting their presence, all to uncover the haunting secrets of your past. Each photo you take reveals a new memory, but be cautious, some anomalies will try to deceive you.
Also, keep an eye on your photo cartridges, running out means you won't be able to capture the paranormal. And don't forget about your health: certain anomalies will try to attack you.
