Indie Game Mina the Hollower Sold 300,000 Copies In Its First Three Days

This is great news for indie developers.

Yacht Club Games achieved a huge success with their game Mina the Hollower. Within its first three days, it sold 300,000 copies, and so far, it's the highest-rated game of 2026 so far, according to Metacritic.

A few days ago, we shared an interview we did with the developers of the game, and they detailed part of the development process and how they blended influences from Zelda, Castlevania, and Bloodborne while creating the game with its own identity.

Yacht Club Games is the developer of Shovel Knight, which was released in 2014, and it has had various spin-offs. It's also a platform game with pixel graphics.

According to developers, Mina the Hollower is their biggest game yet. It has over 1,200 handcrafted screens, and it's the size of all four Shovel Knight campaigns combined!

According to stats on Steam, Mina the Hollower had almost 13,000 players five days ago, even though this doesn't reflect the player base, and it doesn't include numbers from Switch, PS, or Xbox.

Seeing an indie game getting a lot of success is so refreshing, and it shows how people are interested in this kind of game.

Sean Velasco, the Co-Founder and Director of the studio, told Bloomberg that now they are relying on revenue from Mina the Hollower, and they can keep working without making cuts. He also added that even though the game is being successful, he was hoping for a bigger result.

"I wonder how come the best-reviewed game of 2026 is not the fastest-selling game, so I feel a big fire lit to close that gap,"

– Sean Velasco

It took them six years to make Mina the Hollower, and during the development of the game, they had to stop another project they had in mind. Maybe at some point we'll know about that project.
