Inside VFX Of Percy Jackson And The Olympians Season 2
Take a closer look at how the rock-like Sirens were created with custom Bullet and Vellum solvers.
Adapting The Sea of Monsters, the second book in Rick Riordan's iconic Greek mythology-inspired fantasy series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, returned for an 8-episode second season, which concluded in January.
As we prepare for Season 3 this autumn, let's take a step back and go behind the scenes of Season 2 with Storm Studios, the VFX studio based in Oslo, Norway. In this breakdown, the team explores the work behind some of the season's shots, including creeping vines, teleporting taxis, and the Sirens.
Storm Studios worked on around 200 shots, from traditional compositing to more complex character work. For the Sirens, they developed a custom Bullet solver in Houdini to handle intersections with the rocks, while using a custom Vellum solver to attach barnacles to their backs.
