Kaoru Yoshitake Proves That 3D Anime Can Benefit from 2D Art

"Good communication with designers makes anime better."

Animator and director Kaoru Yoshitake is in the process of creating an independent mecha anime, called Prometic Knight, using Blender and After Effects.

The project will show us armored warriors, mechanical birds, and superpowers. The protagonist receives the power of a knight, but her sister refuses to recognize it because she hasn't followed the appropriate procedures.

We know that the show uses both 3D and 2D art, and together, they look cohesive and simply right. "Shaders are important, but I think the best solution for anime-style designs is to add 2D materials and adjust them," Yoshitake said.

In a new X/Twitter post, the director demonstrated another 2D example in 3D space and expressed his gratitude towards team members who make it all possible.

"I don't need to do complicated CG calculations. Good communication with designers makes anime better. Respect is important."

Prometic Knight has no AI and no motion capture, only manual work with animation. It is in the process of development and doesn't have a release date yet, but if you want to follow its progress, check out Yoshitake's X/Twitter.
