Konami Explained Why It Had Chosen Metal Gear Solid 3 for Remake

The company revealed some details about the game.

The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake had been an open secret long before it was announced last week. We know that it is coming to PlayStation 5 and features the original voice cast, and recently, Konami has shared some other details about the game.

Many fans are wondering if the series creator Hideo Kojima and artist Yoji Shinkawa are involved in Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, but – alas – they are not.

"They are not involved," a Konami spokesperson told IGN. "However, the development team will work hard to create this remake and also the ports (for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection) so that they can be enjoyed on multiple platforms by even more players all around the world."

As rumored before, Virtuos is the studio behind the remake, aided by Konami developers that have worked on other games in the franchise.

Another curious question is why start with MGS 3 instead of the first installment? Here is what the company had to say:

"We chose Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater because it depicts the birth of BIG BOSS (Naked Snake), which is the starting point of the Metal Gear series. Another reason is that many fans have been requesting a remake of this game for a long time."

The spokesperson also mentioned that Konami would "listen to player demand" and consider fans' ideas regarding other remakes.

As for why the game has a Δ instead of 3, the studio said that the Delta symbol's meaning fits the concept of the remake: "Delta is a character from the Greek alphabet that means ‘change’ or ‘difference’ in mathematics and variables, and also has the meaning of changing an amount without changing the structure."

What Konami didn't alter is the story: expect the same "gut punch of a conclusion" in the new game as well.
