Kratos Will Return In Next Mainline God Of War Game, Continuing Laufey's Story
God of War Laufey will launch on February 16, 2027.
Comic-Con 2026 took over the San Diego Convention Center from July 23-26, and as usual, it brought plenty of news and reveals across movies, shows, comics, games, and collectibles. One of the highlights was the God of War Laufey panel, which had several announcements, including some that might make gamers who weren't excited about playing as a female lead a little happier.
As reported by IGN, Santa Monica Studio's Cory Barlog revealed that the next Kratos-led God of War game is coming after God of War Laufey and will connect directly to Laufey's story. Unfortunately, details about the next mainline God of War game remain unknown.
God of War Laufey now also has a confirmed release date of February 16, 2027. If you missed it, the game lets you play as Kratos' late wife and Atreus' mother, Faye, who mysteriously awakens in a strange land after her death.
During the panel, the cast also shared some funny moments. Deborah Ann Woll, who portrays Faye, joked that she would call her "Faye McClane," after John McClane from Die Hard. Chris Judge talked about getting the role of Kratos 13 years ago and how he was initially reluctant to take it. Perlina Lau, who plays Rue, said she received an email from Sony asking to chat and thought it was a scam at first.
"I always thought that Faye was the genesis of the change of Kratos, so much of the message in the first two games was about hope and forgiveness and being better. I think that all started with Kratos' relationship with Faye. That's where it began in him, and what kept him going was ensuring that this wonderful life that we had created together would be better than the old man", Judge said, according to IGN.
