Magical Animation with Afterimage Made from 3D Gaussian Splatting

A gorgeous effect by Masaki Mizuno.

Masaki Mizuno, the CEO of the VFX studio Khaki, shared the result of an interesting experiment: he used 3D Gaussian Splatting to create an afterimage effect and then imported it into Blender to add a noise animation.

The animation is an intricate dance, falling away like sand but leaving a powerful impression. Mizuno promised to explore the effect further in the future, so follow him on X/Twitter to see more.

If you want to learn what else Gaussian Splatting can do, have a look at this fluffy bee, this epic explosion, and the exploration of 3D Gaussian Splats with Apple Vision Pro.
