Deep Silver announced a free update for its METRO 2033 Redux title coming later this October. The publisher reported that 16 years after the release of the original title, METRO 2033, the series sold 50 million copies worldwide. To celebrate the milestone, Deep Silver is releasing a major update for all METRO 2033 Redux and METRO Last Light Redux owners for free.

The upcoming update is not a full remaster or remake, the publisher states. Instead, they kept the original aesthetic of the 2014 METRO Redux and amped up the graphics to take advantage of the capabilities of the latest hardware. Both the PC and the console versions are getting support for 4K textures for a more immersive experience, making METRO's unsettling environments full of doom even more chilling.

The update includes "improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio and richer environmental detail" along with known bug fixes, Deep Silver promises. Their METRO Redux Next-Gen Update will have native support for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S, as well as several enhancements for both the Xbox and the PlayStation consoles.

According to Deep Silver, with the right monitor or TV, you can play the game at a dizzying upscaled 4K at 120FPS. With improved lighting, shadows, and particle effects, it's about to be a trippy experience. For those who are too afraid of frying their hardware with this update, there will be Power Optimized Mode on Xbox and Power Saver Mode support for PlayStation. 

"Full patch notes detailing all technical improvements and platform-specific features will be revealed at launch," the publisher teases. The update is coming on October 22 for PC users and October 29 for console players. In the meantime, don't forget about the upcoming METRO 2039 and take a look at what 4A Games has brewing for their 2027 release.
