Marathon's Art Director Joseph Cross Leaving Bungie
"I’m super proud of the project and what the team accomplished over the last six years."
Bungie
Marathon has been the subject of news articles quite a lot, but not for the reasons Bungie hopes. With its art theft case and issues between the developers and management, the game was delayed but is back on track for a March release.
However, not everyone from the team will be at the studio by then: Joseph Cross, Marathon's art director, is leaving Bungie after years of trying to keep it afloat. As first noted by The Game Post, his LinkedIn profile now states his last day at the company somewhere in 2025, and Cross confirmed to Kotaku that the speculation is true.
"I’m super proud of the project and what the team accomplished over the last six years," he said.
Bungie
Marathon has been in development for years, and not everyone believes in its success. Art stealing aside, players weren't that happy about the decisions Bungie made for the game, like the absence of proximity chat, so the studio had to listen and add it, as it "absolutely cannot afford" for Marathon to fail.
I don't have high hopes for its success, but we'll see if Bungie makes it right, now without Cross, in March.
