"By merging our teams, we can leverage Forger's history on iPad and ZBrush's sculpting capabilities to introduce more features and innovations."
Acquired by Maxon in 2021, Forger is a 3D modeling and sculpting app for iPad that received updates until 2023. Starting September 10th, 2025, Forger will enter Limited Maintenance Mode. From this date forward, the app will no longer be available for purchase or download on the App Store.
This announcement marks the conclusion of one of the oldest sculpting apps for iPad, and according to Maxon, the company plans to merge the development teams behind Forger and ZBrush for iPad to deliver enhanced features and innovations, especially focusing on the Apple Pencil and iPad integration.
However, it's important to note that Forger's native file format is not directly supported in ZBrush. Users can still import .obj or .goz files with a ZBrush Free or Subscription plan.
Maxon has recently discontinued ZBrushCore and ZBrushCoreMini, hinting that a new freemium version of ZBrush Desktop may be on the horizon. Also, Left Angle, the developer behind Autograph, an alternative to After Effects for motion graphics and VFX, ceased operations and joined Maxon, though it remains unclear whether Maxon plans to rebuild Autograph, expand the Maxon One suite, or integrate the technology into its existing products.
