Maya 2027 & 3ds Max 2027 Add Smart Bevel Tool
Easily create smooth geometry transitions and see how the new system compares with the old tools.
Autodesk has launched a series of feature-rich 2027 updates across Maya, 3ds Max, Flow Studio, and Arnold, enhancing core toolsets and more. For a full overview, check out our article, but one highlight worth noting is the new Smart Bevel system, now in both 3ds Max and Maya.
Smart Bevel makes it easy to create smooth, precise bevels. You can adjust the width, depth, and number of segments, and it works well with complex geometry and world units. Unlike old bevel tools, it gives more reliable results, especially after Boolean operations and when dealing with dense or intersecting geometry, reducing the need for manual cleanup. It's also fully non-destructive.

Another major update in Maya 2027 is the integration of the ngSkinTools skinning add-on, bringing a complete layer-based system, advanced masking, and mirror tools directly into the app. Skin Tools are designed for both expert Technical Artists and those new to rigging, and the workflow makes it easier to refine, iterate, and solve complex deformations with greater control.
