Mechanical Scorpion Rig Made Using Maya's Built-In Tools

The rig has been set up procedurally and is driven by the local controller.

Junior Rigger Jade Carreira recently blew up on LinkedIn by showcasing an incredible mechanical scorpion rig created in Maya with nothing but the software's built-in tools.

Describing the project as an "absolute joy to work on", the author stated that the rig was set up procedurally and is driven by the local controller. Moreover, the setup is not based on any particular tutorial and was accomplished by Jade through " trial and error". Besides Maya, the author also utilized the TurboSquid library to get the scorpion model itself.

Here are some more of Jade's projects, you can see more by visiting the artist's LinkedIn, ArtStation, and Instagram pages:

And here are some insightful guides that will help get started with rigging in Maya:

Interestingly, this is not the first mechanical arachnid we've seen in recent months. Back in April 3D Modeler, Animator, and Blender enthusiast Cartesian "Bbbn192" Caramel also demonstrated a procedural spider robot animation and shared a comprehensive tutorial explaining how it was set up in Blender with Geometry Nodes:
