Meet the Main Characters from Dark Fantasy Game 1666: Amsterdam

Are you excited for this game?

Panache Digital Games shared a gameplay feature video of 1666: Amsterdam, where Co-Founder and Executive Producer Jean-François Boivin talked about the main characters from the game, Noa and Aaron.

1666: Amsterdam is a story-led action-adventure game that is set in three timelines: 1666, 1999, and the present day. It originally entered development in 2014, but later the project was cancelled. During Summer Game Fest 2026, Patrice Désilets, Co-Creator of Assassin's Creed, re-announced the game.

In the gameplay feature, Boivin explains that Noa Brooklyn is a young woman born in Amsterdam who works as an apothecary's apprentice, but she holds a secret: she is an heir to the Zaindaris, a lineage of women entrusted with a mission, passing down ancient knowledge from generation to generation.

Noa has to find the Originals, people corrupted by an ancient magic called the Nux. To do so, she has to use the skills and tools that she has inherited, like the Heeparan, an artifact that attaches to the person bearing it and allows her to absorb the Nux.

Aaron, on the other hand, is a university professor with an ordinary life in 1999, but everything changes when he is caught in a ceremony that sends him to 1666 in the body of a cat.

Both Noa and Aaron end up connected through a Union ceremony, and now they have to work together to retrieve the Nux from the Originals.

The first gameplay feature video the developers shared was about the Zaindaris world. Boivin explains its magic, why it was given to them, who the Originals are, and why Noa has to find them.

Panache Digital Games has also shared devlogs offering more insight into the making of the game: how the idea started, how important it was for them to travel to Amsterdam to figure out how to adapt the city for the game, and how they conducted historical research into the occult and witchcraft.

In the other devlog, the developers explained the three distinct art directions they are using to create each era of the game:

1666: Amsterdam doesn't have a release date yet, but there is a Prologue available to play on PC. So far, it has received mixed reviews on Steam, and the full game is set to be released in Early Access later in 2026. You can add it to your wishlist.
