Epic Games is launching Fab in mid-October.
Last year at GDC, Epic Games revealed Fab, a new content marketplace, successor to Unreal Engine Marketplace, Sketchfab, ArtStation Marketplace, and Quixel.com, built to serve all digital creators across industries. This new platform, which enables users to find, publish, and share various assets, will launch in mid-October this year.
As a part of these changes, the team at Quixel has announced that Megascans will be available exclusively on Fab and will be free for everyone under Fab's Standard License from launch until the end of 2024. This means Epic Games will no longer offer the Quixel Megascans library for free starting next year.
Fab
Starting today, Quixel is discontinuing automatic renewals of paid subscriptions. If you are a paying Quixel subscriber, you can convert to Epic Wallet credit or refund any active paid points balances when Fab launches.
Any content downloaded from Quixel.com or Bridge will still be subject to the license that was in place when it was acquired. This means you can use previously downloaded Megascans assets in your past, present, and future projects according to the original license terms.
The Megascans library being free is arguably a huge reason for new users to pick Unreal Engine over other engines, streamlining the learning curve for Unreal Engine 5 and UEFN and enabling to quickly start building impressive environments. Although this opportunity will no longer be available for future Unreal Engine users, you can still grab the assets for free until the end of the year, and once you do, they’re yours to keep forever.
Additionally, starting today, Unreal Engine Marketplace creators can begin migrating their products to Fab using the Fab Publishing Portal, as Unreal Engine Marketplace will be discontinued when Fab launches.
