Mesh Match For Maya Introduces Automatic Landmark Detection & Skeleton Build

See what's new in David Liebard's advanced mesh registration tool.

Since we last covered the release of David Liebard's Mesh Match in free beta, the tool has seen significant progress. After a 3-month beta phase, Mesh Match officially launched and has since received multiple updates that enhanced its functionality.

If you missed this, Mesh Match is built to streamline 3D production workflows by offering powerful tools for mesh alignment, registration, deformation, and rig retargeting, all natively within Maya. Mesh Match 1.1 brought AI-powered automatic facial landmark detection, along with a redesigned UI for a more intuitive experience and a command for facial detection without the UI. A free version was also released for non-commercial use, offering full functionality with the only limitation being input mesh density. Additionally, macOS support was introduced.

The most recent update added body landmark detection, perfect for character workflows or external use. It also added Auto Skeleton functionality, which instantly creates full-body skeletons, providing a solid foundation for auto-rigging pipelines.

To help users get started, Mesh Match provides comprehensive documentation, tutorial videos, and access to a dedicated Discord server for news and discussion.
