Vice president for VR Mark Rabkin said there would be 41 new apps and games for Quest 3.
Meta's vice president for VR Mark Rabkin announced that nearly 20 million Quest headsets have been sold to date. This is a curious number considering last year's reports from analytics stating almost 15 million Quest 2 units had been bought.
During a roadmap presentation of the company's AR and VR products, Rabkin also shared that the upcoming Quest 3 will be two times thinner, at least twice as powerful, and cost slightly more than the $400 Quest 2, according to The Verge.
Meta has ambitious plans for the newest headset. It needs to "get enthusiasts fired up" while convincing people to pay "a bit more" money.
"We have to prove to people that all this power, all these new features are worth it."
There will be 41 new apps and games, including new mixed reality experiences, and a new "smart guardian" to help you navigate: “You can walk effortlessly through your house knowing you can see perfectly well. You can put anchors and things on your desktop. You can take your coffee. You can stay in there much longer.”
A more accessible headset codenamed Ventura will be released in 2024, while AR devices will be launching through 2027, with the second generation of Meta’s smart glasses coming this fall.
