Mortal Kombat 1 Won't See Any New DLC Characters & Story Chapters

NetherRealm needs to focus on its next project.

NetherRealm

Sad news for Mortal Kombat 1 fans: they will not get new DLC characters and story chapters anymore, as the developer, NetherRealm, needs to "shift focus to the next project in order to make it as great as we possibly can."

"We understand this will be disappointing for fans," a tweet from the official Mortal Kombat 1 account says. But don't worry: the studio isn't abandoning the game and will continue providing support through balance adjustments and fixes.

NetherRealm didn't reveal what game they are working on, but a dataminer has recently claimed it is Injustice 3, the next superhero fighter in the series, featuring characters from DC.

As IGN noted, Mortal Kombat 11 "lost" new DLCs two years and three months after the release, but with MK1, it happened only one year and eight months later. Maybe it's because Mortal Kombat 1 has sold 5 million copies, which, compared to MK11's more than 15 million, is not that much, so the developers want to move on to something potentially more successful quickly.

Well, at least fans have the Mortal Kombat 2 movie to look forward to in October.
