New Copernicus Node For Testing UV Layouts On 3D Models
SideFX Labs' UV Grid Texture COP is now available.
When a model is unwrapped into UV space, it can be difficult to determine if the mapping is accurate. This new Copernicus node creates procedural textures designed to test UV layouts, texture orientation, texel density, and distortion. The generated texture can be customized using tile colors, markers, outlines, and text labels.
The resulting image can be saved to disk or previewed using UV Visualize SOP, which projects it onto geometry to help analyze UV placement, orientation, distortion, seams, and UV island distribution.
SideFX Labs is a free and open-source toolset developed separately from the main Houdini release cycle and includes hundreds of HDAs, plug-ins, extensions, and more, ready for testing and feedback. You can also submit ideas and view the public roadmap here.
Also, if you missed this, SideFX has recently teased Houdini 22. The official Keynote presentation is available here.
If you're just getting started with Houdini, you can explore these seven free Houdini courses from The VFX Campus, an online VFX school. Don't forget to visit the Houdini Learning Portal for tutorials, talks, and other resources.
