Bethesda and id Software, the developer of the legendary FPS that set the standard for the genre, Doom, announced the release of the new enhanced edition. Doom and Doom II are getting a single release and are available for PC and console.
A free upgrade is available for players who already own previously released versions of Doom or Doom II on any of the platforms supporting the new edition. The platforms are specified in the recent patch notes on Steam.

According to the notes, the new enhanced edition features improved graphics, support of the KEX engine, co-op for 16 players, community-published single-player mod support with an in-game mod browser, improved performance, and more.
Players can choose the original soundtrack or the new version by Andrew Hulshult. Along with the base games, the new edition includes Master Levels for Doom II, TNT: Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment, No Rest for the Living, SIGIL, Legacy of Rust, which is a new episode of the game, and a new Deathmatch map pack.
As explained by the developers, Legacy of Rust is the most recent episode of the game, featuring new enemies and weapons. Master Levels for Doom II is an expansion that offers twenty additional levels, each featuring action from the base game. Sigil is an episode set between the storylines of Doom and Doom II.
