The KeenTools team has presented a novel tool for camera and object tracking in Blender.
KeenTools, the development team behind such tools as GeoTracker for After Effects, FaceBuilder, and many others, has officially introduced GeoTracker for Blender, an amazing new add-on that brings object and camera tracking directly into the 3D software.
Currently in open beta, the novel tool can be used to recreate object movement from live-action video, create keyframes and refine tracking to achieve accurate results, use 2D masks and 3D surface masks to remove unnecessary elements, automatically track focal length change, export your tracking results out of Blender, track custom-made heads created with the aforementioned FaceBuilder add-on, and more.
The best thing is that the add-on is available entirely free of charge, requiring only an official 64-bit version of Blender (2.80 and newer) and "a decent GPU that can handle 3D mode in Blender".
Features:
- Accurate and controllable object and camera tracking based on geometry
- 3D object and camera alignment inside Blender
- Intuitive workflow
- Automatic focal length estimation
- Video-based 3D model texturing
- Ultimate head tracking with our FaceBuilder
- Ready for pipelines outside Blender
To help you get the hang of GeoTracker for Blender, the devs have also shared a couple of insightful tutorials explaining the basics of the new tool and showing how it can be used to track heads:
