McMagic Productions is working on an ambitious project coming to Steam Early Access this fall. In his post-apocalyptic MMORPG Novus Inceptio players will get a chance to create their own civilizations from scratch and get a look at a procedurally generated world in Unity 5.
Novus Inceptio is going to have sci-fi/fantasy elements but will not follow the modern MMOs. Martin Mastný has set out to create an integrated living world that is not influenced by player base. The gameplay will mainly focus on tactics, strategy, and survival action. The game is to be set on an unknown planet. Players will be tasked to determine what caused a global catastrophe that brought doom upon the planet.
In order to do so, users will have to utilize supernatural abilities and advanced technology. It will be up to the players to create a new civilization. Interestingly, there will be almost no NPCs and absolutely no quests. Novus Inceptio also has a rich character creation tool up its sleeve. The characters will have to constantly practice their skills or they will become worse at them.
The survival element is very strong as the characters will get old, sick, exhausted or injured. Any of this can result in a permanent death. After the death players can use stored DNA to create clones of their fallen characters. Characters can have kids and if they die of natural causes, these offsprings will become playable. Other neat stuff like day-night cycle and weather effects will also be present. Novus Inceptio is in development for PC only.
