According to him, DLSS 5 is "conditioned by the artistry of the artist".

It's been a while since the internet reacted this strongly to a tech reveal. NVIDIA's DLSS 5 grabbed attention far beyond gaming circles, with gamers and developers creating endless memes about it and many expressing frustration over how it actually works. Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, recently appeared on Lex Fridman's podcast to discuss AI technology and was asked to shed light on the reception of DLSS 5.
"I think their perspective makes sense, and I could see where they're coming from, because I don't love AI slop myself. You know, all of the AI-generated content increasingly looks similar, and they're all beautiful, so I'm empathetic towards what they're thinking", said Huang.
He argued, however, that this criticism misunderstands DLSS 5, explaining that it's "3D conditioned, 3D guided, ground truth structure data guided" and that it's "conditioned by the artistry of the artist". Since DLSS 5 is an open model, Huang suggested that users train their own models to have control over the final output. "It's about giving the artist the tool of generative AI. They could decide not to use it, you know?"

Last week, NVIDIA released an FAQ on DLSS 5 and addressed concerns about how it preserves an artist's intent. However, many remained unsatisfied, as the docs suggest it provides just intensity and color grading controls. Performance remains another area of concern.
