NVIDIA's Half-Life 2 RTX Remaster Gets a New Gameplay Trailer

The creepiness of Ravenholm has been enhanced with realistic lighting and shadowing.

During the ongoing CES 2024 event, NVIDIA provided an update on Half-Life 2 RTX, a community-made RTX remaster of Valve's legendary first-person shooter currently in development at Orbifold Studios, sharing a brand-new gameplay trailer for the remaster.

Originally announced in August 2023, Half-Life 2 RTX utilizes various advanced technologies from NVIDIA, including full ray tracing, NVIDIA DLSS 3, NVIDIA Reflex, and RTX IO, to offer a gaming experience specifically designed for GeForce RTX users.

The development team also heavily relies on RTX Remix, a modding platform that enables developers to enhance visuals in classic games by capturing game assets, improving materials with AI tools, and swiftly implementing RTX with ray tracing and DLSS.

The new trailer has offered a more in-depth view of how the remaster tackles the game's spookiest location, Ravenholm. The eerie atmosphere of the location was heightened by the team by incorporating realistic lighting and shadow effects into its dimly lit streets and abandoned buildings.

Moreover, the trailer shared a few glimpses at Half-Life 2 RTX's gameplay, featuring Gordon Freeman battling zombies. It was also mentioned that the game is still in early development, with no specified release window as of now. You can learn more about Half-Life 2 RTX here.

Alongside the trailer, NVIDIA announced that starting January 22, RTX Remix, previously available only to a select group of early-access users, will be available to anyone in open beta. "With NVIDIA RTX Remix, we're enabling modders to remaster their favorite classic games with full ray tracing, NVIDIA DLSS, NVIDIA Reflex, modern physically-based rendering (PBR) assets, and generative AI texture tools – one of many generative AI announcements made at CES," commented the company.
