Otoy Reveals Octane 2023

The upgrade introduces meshlet streaming and neural rendering with real-time temporal denoising.

Otoy unveiled Octane 2023, the next version of the GPU production renderer, introducing the features we'll see in OctaneRender 2023.1 and Octane X, including meshlet streaming and neural rendering with real-time temporal denoising.

Otoy compares the meshlet streaming to Unreal Engine's Nanite geometry system. The tech eliminates constraints on CPU and VRAM, improving performance when the scene is too big for the GPU, but requires a fast SSD.

Neural rendering makes Octane generate an AI object Otoy calls a "fundamentally new asset type"  based on the photos or renders you feed to it.

Other new features now in development are a real-time temporal denoiser supporting complex light transport and subsurface scattering, real-time time path-traced analytic spotlights, complex lens effects, environment medium scattering, and chromatic aberration.

The compositor, light linking and per-light denoising system have also been overhauled, while multi-engine rendering will ship out of the box with Anime Kernel, Unreal Engine, and Pixar Storm. Additionally, the release will provide CUDA network render interoperability between machines running on Windows or Linux and under Metal on macOS.

Octane 2023 is now in a closed beta, Otoy hasn't announced the full release date.

You can get the stable version via the Studio+ subscription for 23.95 €/month. Read what's new in Octane 2023 here and don't forget to join our Reddit page and our Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
