Over 47% of Stop Killing Games Signatures Have Already Been Verified

The initiative has reached the required signature threshold in 15 countries, with Germany and France – the two largest – expected to follow suit.

While the Stop Killing Games initiative has largely faded from the headlines and entered its arguably most nerve-wracking stage – signature verification – the work continues behind the scenes, with the team publishing a new update on what the movement has achieved since its mid-September announcement.

In its latest statement, the SKG crew revealed that 689,035 out of 1,448,270 signatures, just over 47%, have been verified, meeting the required threshold in 15 EU countries. At present, Germany and France, the two largest union members, have yet to meet the criteria, however, the team notes that based on their progress so far, they are confident the initiative will reach the threshold there as well.

The team also highlighted that they have held extensive discussions with members of the European Parliament, national governments, political party representatives, and the EU Commission, with some reaching out to SKG directly, over the past few months.

Perhaps the most significant revelation made by SKG is that they are actively seeking backing from industry experts, emphasizing that having politicians, lobbyists, and developers on board is invaluable, while stressing the need to address challenging questions credibly without depending on costly consulting firms.

"Some may ask, 'Why engage with those who created this mess?' The answer is clear: There is no monolithic 'industry,'" the announcement reads. "The vast majority of studios – especially European ones, both indie and AAA – have always listened to players and strived to do right by their community. This issue is driven by a powerful few who do not represent the values of creators or players.

Our fight is not against a united CEO front. It's against a handful of companies holding our favorite games hostage. That's why we said 'enough' and why so many of you did too. Let's not just talk about developers but with them too; many of whom – big and small – are already resisting these awful practices. We can't undo past damage, but we can stop what's coming. We shall not allow a few bad actors to dictate the future!"

Earlier, the team reported that early signature checks from several countries found about 97% of signatures to be valid, meaning that, if this rate holds, reaching the required one million valid signatures to bring the initiative before the European Commission should pose no problem.
