Palworld Boss Accuses Other Companies of Cloning Their Hit Game

It's no wonder he commented, "These are incredible times," when the company involved just became an official partner to the game last month.

Not sure if you remember the news from January, when the hit game Palworld was growing exponentially, the Pokémon company stated "We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon." Now, unsurprisingly or not, Palworld's boss is accusing other companies of plagiarizing Palworld.

Takuro Mizobe, CEO of Pocketpair, has accused Tencent and other Chinese companies of creating clones of their hit game, Palworld.

Mizobe shared a screenshot of Auroria, an upcoming game developed by the Chinese studio Tianjin Wumai Technology and backed by Tencent. Mizobe expressed his surprise in the tweet, as translated by Automaton:

"Tencent is already making a Palworld clone game! In China, many companies are simultaneously developing mobile clones of Palworld, and the budgets are in the 10 billion yen-range, 10 times larger than Palworld’s… Next year, we might see many Genshin Impact-level creature (or bishojo) raising games… These are incredible times.”

According to information on Steam, Auroria is set to release in the second quarter of 2024. It is an open-world, multiplayer, cooperative sandbox game set in a space environment.

Looking at the screenshots provided by the developer, you might sense a feeling of 'familiarity':

Though not widely reported, last month, Tencent Cloud became the official server provider for Palworld, aiming to provide a smoother multiplayer experience.
