Palworld, a bizarre multiplayer survival game by Pocketpair, has become a huge hit since its launch on Friday, January 19.
If you haven't yet heard about its success, so let me tell you a bit. Over the weekend, the game managed to gather more than 1 million concurrent players on Steam and became the sixth title that has ever seen such a result, surpassing games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3. Palworld's all-time peak is almost 1.3 million concurrent players, the record set around 14 hours ago. At the moment of writing, more than 900 thousand players are in the game.
The game has also sold over 4 million copies since its release in early access on Steam, which was last Friday.

- This was the studio's first attempt at creating models and assets instead of purchasing them, which meant they had no control over sources or names;
- The Chief Artist of Palworld had been rejected by over a hundred companies during interviews;
- The animation for the guns in Palworld was done by a 20-year-old guy who had recently graduated from high school. He had to divide his time between working on Palworld and holding a part-time job as a cashier in a grocery store;
- The entire team didn't know what a "rig" was;
- At a certain point, a Senior Engineer experienced in Unreal Engine joined the team, and later, they left Unity, with the engineer single-handedly retraining the team;
- The CEO of the company personally took part in optimizing Palworld just before its release;
- Currently, Pocketpair has hired industry veterans and improved its processes.
