PlatinumGames is Making a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin Action Game
This is the first major project of Paramount in the gaming world.
It was just announced that Paramount Games and PlatinumGames are working on a video game adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.
This was revealed during the Summer Game Fest showcase, and they said that it would be a AAA action-adventure game. At some point, it was known that a video game adaptation was under the Black Forest Studio, but Paramount said that's no longer the case.
The Last Ronin comic is a story that occurs in an alternative universe of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles world, and it follows the last remaining turtle who wants to avenge the death of his brothers.
IGN had the chance to talk with Shawn Kittelsen, Senior Vice President and Head of Creative and Production at Paramount Games Studio, and he said that it felt natural for PlatinumGames to make something about The Last Ronin.
"I expected to hear a lot about combat and action and we did, but we also heard a lot about the heart of this story and what The Last Ronin means to Turtles fans who grew up with TMNT and now can look back on their lives and see that things have changed, and they're more complicated, and they live in a different world, and they want the next generation to be able to enjoy the things that we all enjoyed when we were younger"
– Shawn Kittelsen talking about creatives.
He also explained that they want the game to be about the seasons of life, and how things that we love change as we grow older, but they are still significant for us.
For now, we don't have a release date yet, but for TMNT fans, this adaptation is shocking and emotional news, especially because of the maturity and darkness of the comic.
Check out this John Likens' test footage of Raphael we shared a few months ago, it looks so cool.
