Do you want to play your library of Xbox games lying in bed with a handheld? Engineer Redherring32 can with the portable Xbox they built using real console parts. "This isn't a PC handheld, it isn't emulation, this is a real motherboard from a real Xbox," they said.
The handheld has a 9” 480p display with pure digital video/audio and a USB-C port. Redherring32 is also adding WiFi 6 for wireless Xbox Live functionality, so the device will soon be as functional as official products.
The creator trimmed an original Xbox motherboard and made sure it was fully compatible with the entire Xbox library. If you'd like to cut your own out, check out this guide Redherring32 provided.
They will also kindly share all the information about the 12 custom PCBs they used on GitHub later, so stay tuned.
Redherring32 promised to show the console in action soon, so follow them on X/Twitter if you don't want to miss it.
Redherring32 is not the only one to come up with this idea. We have also seen a handheld made from PlayStation 1, PS2, and a PS5 tablet.
