PlayStation Reportedly Reboots Horizon Hunters Gathering

Horizon Hunters Gathering is a multiplayer action spinoff of the Horizon series by Guerrilla; it was announced in February and entered a playtest later that month. Later in May, a second playtest was announced.

Now, according to a Bloomberg report, an anonymous source told Bloomberg's Jason Schreier that Sony is moving the spinoff away from its live-service structure after some negative feedback during private playtests.

Reportedly, Guerrilla's plan now is to turn the game into "a traditional cooperative multiplayer game with a story mode and a far smaller scope," and it has been working on the reboot since June.

The source also said Guerrilla told its staff that the studio has until December to impress PlayStation executives with the next milestone. The report also mentioned that some of the Horizon Hunters Gathering developers are being moved to another Guerrilla project.

In 2025, Sony canceled a God of War live-service game, alongside other projects that were also planned as live-service titles, so it wouldn't be the first time Sony decides to take a step back from a live-service project.

So far, neither PlayStation nor Guerrilla has publicly confirmed or denied the report. The project has not been canceled and remains in development for PlayStation 5 and PC, though it still lacks a release date.
