Based on a recent Remedy Entertainment post, the studio has decided to cancel its multiplayer game codenamed Kestrel.
Initially codenamed Vanguard, the Kestrel project underwent a name change when the decision was made to transition the game to a "premium" model while still maintaining its cooperative gameplay aspect. Remedy's partnership on the project was with Tencent, a company that owns a 15 percent stake in Remedy.
Despite being in its early stages, the Kestrel project faced cancellation as Remedy opted to shift its focus towards other games. Speaking of which, the studio is currently working on various projects including Control 2, a cooperative spin-off of Control codenamed Condor, and remakes of the two Max Payne games.
Remedy stated that by axing the Kestrel project, they aim to reinforce the development teams working on their ongoing games and reduce the need to hire new employees.
