Its first trailer might be shown during this Friday's Summer Game Fest.
The next entry in the beloved survival horror franchise Resident Evil, dubbed Resident Evil 9, could be revealed later this week at the Summer Game Fest on June 6, according to various recent rumors.
AestheticGamer, aka Dusk Golem, who shared last year before the official announcement came out in July that the game would be set on a fictional island in Southeast Asia and might embrace an open world, brought this news to public attention via a Twitter post:
This information has been confirmed by MP1st's source, who is said to be familiar with the upcoming event but isn't sure if the game will be officially titled Resident Evil 9. Regarding the expected release window, which the ScreenFire Germany YouTube channel indicated would be Q1 2026, or more specifically, the end of March for the timing of the franchise's 30th anniversary, MP1st's source cannot corroborate it.
"For now, it’s assumed RE9 will be revealed at Summer Game Fest’s kick off on June 6, unless there’s another show Capcom might unveil the game at," MP1st's report continued.
The community has some idea of what this "another show" could be — State of Play. According to Jeff Grubb, a PlayStation event is expected to happen this month. Although it's not confirmed what specific event it is, he "leans toward State of Play."
A player who claimed to have joined Resident Evil 9's playtests shared that the new game is set four years after the events of Resident Evil Village, with Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine returning as the main characters. Players can expect to explore various locations on the island, including an abandoned hospital, caves, abandoned houses, villagers' houses, a dark forest, an abandoned factory, laboratories, and a temple.
