Respawn & DICE Are Reportedly Working on Star Wars: Battlefront 3

At least some good news from EA.

DICE

Electronic Arts is actively restructuring the company after its acquisition by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, which led it to lay off 3% of its workforce, shut down BioWare, and cancel the next Mass Effect.

Life for other games, however, goes on, as EA is still invested in Battlefield, Apex Legends, Marvel's Iron Man, the next Star Wars Jedi, and a new entry in the Fight Night boxing franchise.

Moreover, EA's president and chief studios officer Cam Weber together with David Tinson, president and COO, said that Respawn and DICE studios would collaborate on a project. According to Variety's sources, the project is Star Wars: Battlefront 3.

This is significant and surprising: Battlefront 3 by Free Radical Design was canceled in 2008, "2 yards from the finish line," as former developer Michael Barclay said, and it was going to be "legit incredible".

Later, EA released reboots of the first two games, which looked closer to the movies. Perhaps we'll see how awesome the original Battlefront 3 was soon if the report is true, although Respawn and DICE are not Free Radical Design, so who knows how close the result will be to the original vision.

Hopefully, everybody makes it until the end of production. For now, we have Battlefront 1 and 2, a Classic Collection, EA's reboots, and a bunch of shelved projects, including Battlefront 3, 4, Star Wars: Battlefront Online, and First Assault, if rumors are to be believed.
