Rigging Origami Animals For 2025 Oscar-Shortlisted Animation Origami

Kei Kanamori shared more behind-the-scenes of working with 3D models inspired by traditional Japanese designs.

If you missed it, Kei Kanamori is a passionate origami enthusiast who has been dedicated to the art since a young age and recently made history as the first Japanese winner of a Student Academy Award for his beautiful animation, which features traditional paper folds transforming into flowers and animals.

Last week, the artist shared an inside look at Origami's centerpiece, the creation of the sakura tree with Maya and Houdini. The film showcases real origami techniques: every element you see can be folded from a sheet of paper. This time, you can observe how Kei meticulously rigged the bird, rabbit, and frog for animation, staying true to the authentic designs.
